Pockets of the Future

Climate futurist, Michael Barnard, highlights Canada’s potential to be seen as a global leader in clean energy. He explores how Canada can stand out by using existing resources and collaborating efficiently to secure its position on the world stage. Barnard identifies untapped potentials specific to BC, such as pre-fabricated mass timber and the strategic wind and solar relationship with the United States. Finally, he discusses what Burnaby and Metro Vancouver are getting right regarding District Energy optimism, and explores reality-based opportunities to define Burnaby as a sustainable Clean Energy Hub.

Burnaby has some of the most advanced Clean Energy facilities and companies in Canada. Panelists representing some of those companies- Corix, Svante, and Hydrogen in Motion- will be joining moderator and President & CEO of Burnaby Board of Trade, Angie Whitfield, to explore what makes Burnaby a perfect place to establish clean energy and tech companies. It's easier to collaborate with one another when we are all in the same beautiful city.

From Austria and Denmark to Canada- Collaborating Across Sectors is an important breakout panel that will discuss local and global perspectives and potential collaborations for the Clean Energy future in BC and Canada. Dr. Lygnerud from Denmark will be moderating this panel of experts to discuss how BC can diversify its clean energy ecosystem to prepare for the future. Karin Göttlich and Eva Marie Pusch from Austria will bring their expertise on raw materials and location-specific analysis, while local experts from BC Hydro and BlueForce Energy discuss how BC provides power residentially, commercially, and for transportation.
