2026 Policy Resolutions Advance
The BBOT has been working with the BC Chamber and other Chambers and Boards of Trade in the province to develop it’s two 2026 policy resolutions. Both policies have passed the initial round of screening.
The first is entitled “Addressing the Housing Crisis and High Development Costs”. This resolution recommends that both the federal and provincial governments reform development charges & fee structures, increase public risk sharing and streamline regulatory and approval processes for housing starts.
The second resolution focusses on Burnaby’s clean economy and the federal government’s Critical Minerals strategy. It recommends that regions like Burnaby be recognized as clean-economy and industrial services hubs and advocates for place-based funding models for these hubs. A SME readiness and matchmaking fund to help businesses enter clean-tech, EV, and critical-minerals value chains is also being proposed. This will support downstream and midstream activities (processing, advanced manufacturing, systems integration, commercialization) in urban centres like Burnaby.
We will continue to keep you informed as the policy resolutions make their way to second and third rounds of screening, leading up the BC Chamber’s annual AGM in June.
Should these Provincial and Federal policies pass at the AGM, they are then added to the Policy Books of those Chambers who will then meet regularly with Cabinet Ministers to advocate for the recommendations provided in the policy.
