BBOT Travel Program Returns from an Unforgettable Journey Through Morocco
The Burnaby Board of Trade’s Travel Program recently returned from an unforgettable 10-day journey through beautiful, mesmerizing Morocco. Led by BBOT Membership Manager and travel expert Chris Wei, this year’s destination brought together an incredible group of travellers to explore a country rich in history, culture and colour, and to connect through a shared spirit of adventure.
The journey began in Casablanca, where the group had the rare opportunity to visit the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque early in the day, taking in its remarkable architecture and oceanfront setting. With its unique blend of modern and traditional influences, Casablanca proved to be the perfect starting point.
From there, the group travelled to Rabat, the capital of Morocco, and explored its stunning Kasbah des Oudayas, overlooking a city truly fit to be called the nation’s capital. Positioned on the Atlantic Ocean, Rabat impressed everyone with its immaculate streets, Parisian-style cafés, winding rivers, beautiful parks and the tallest building in Africa. With its blend of elegance and energy, Rabat was, for many, a true highlight of the trip.
Next came Fez, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. Travellers explored the city’s winding Medina, stepping back in time through narrow alleyways filled with ceramic workshops, metal artisans, carpet sellers, and the famous Chouara leather tannery, a true feast for the senses and imagination.
The group’s time in Marrakesh, Morocco’s vibrant “Red City,” was the perfect finale. Centred around its lively Jamaa el-Fna square, Marrakesh offered a sensory feast of sights, sounds and smells that captured the essence of the city. The surrounding souks provided some of the most engaging shopping experiences of the trip, with vibrant markets, intricate crafts and colourful textiles at every turn. For all, Marrakesh was a truly unforgettable finale to the journey.
The BBOT Travel Program has always been about more than travel. It is about connection, bringing people together to share experiences, build friendships and see the world through a new lens. This trip to Morocco was a perfect reflection of that purpose, combining cultural exploration with community and connection.
We are already looking forward to announcing our next destination for 2026, and we can’t wait to announce where we are headed next.
