Manager, Events & Partnerships - Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) – Full Time, Regular, Hybrid (3 days in office / 2 remote)

Reports To: President & CEO
Compensation: Career level M1. $76,855-$84,944 annually, with eligibility for a performance bonus. The position includes health and dental benefits starting at three months, and RRSP employer contributions beginning after one year of service.

The Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) is seeking a dynamic, results-driven leader to design and deliver the experiences that bring our mission to life.

As the official economic development partner to the City of Burnaby, BBOT represents more than 1,100 businesses and delivers 70+ high-impact events each year—from our flagship Business Awards and policy forums to training programs, member mixers, and sector roundtables. These experiences power connection, visibility, and innovation across the business community. Through partnerships with business, government, and post-secondary leaders, we amplify opportunity, champion sustainability, and create the conditions for economic growth.

This role is central to the BBOT’s success—driving nearly 40% of annual revenue while strengthening relationships, amplifying visibility, and delivering exceptional member value.

Your Impact

Strategy, Design & Measurement

Develop and execute a comprehensive events and partnership portfolio that aligns with BBOT’s mission and business goals.
Establish frameworks and KPIs to evaluate event and program impact (attendance, satisfaction, ROI, revenue).
Use insights, surveys, and analytics to continuously refine and improve the member experience.

Event Production

Provide oversight of BBOT’s full event portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, brand, and purpose.
Lead, mentor, and support the event team—including an event contractor, full-time Event Specialist, and temporary part-time coordinators, who are responsible for day-to-day planning and execution.
Set direction, standards, and expectations for event quality, logistics, budgeting, vendor management, timelines, and operational discipline.
Anticipate challenges, guide risk mitigation, and ensure the team delivers smooth, professional, and high-impact events.

Innovation & Experimentation

Pilot new event formats, learning opportunities, and engagement initiatives to respond to evolving member interests.
Integrate technology, partnerships, and creative formats to enhance participant engagement and accessibility.
Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to ensure storytelling and design elevate program experiences.

Sponsorship Development

Lead sponsorship strategy, sales, and fulfillment to align partner objectives with BBOT’s events and programs.
Develop compelling sponsorship packages, proposals, and value propositions.
Steward long-term relationships with sponsors and funders, ensuring strong renewal rates and measurable ROI.
Track performance and ensure accurate sponsorship reporting and recognition.

Event Marketing & Sales

Partner with Marketing & Communications to promote events across digital, email, and media channels.
Ensure a seamless audience experience—from discovery and ticket purchase to on-site engagement and follow-up.
Optimize event marketing through storytelling, partnerships, and post-event amplification.
Analyze registration, conversion, and engagement data to drive continuous improvement.

Budget Management & Reporting

Manage event and partnership budgets, ensuring revenue targets and margins are achieved.
Track performance, analyze data, and report regularly on financial outcomes and trends.
Identify and pursue opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth.

People Leadership

Manage and mentor events team to ensure high-quality delivery and professional growth.
Foster collaboration, accountability, and innovation across the broader BBOT team.
Serve as staff lead for the International Trade and BBEA committees.
Contribute to organizational strategic planning, goal setting, and performance frameworks.

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in event management and team leadership.
Proven success in leading event portfolios and achieving revenue goals.
Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities, budgets, and timelines.
Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with confidence engaging executives, sponsors, and community leaders.
Demonstrated creativity and innovation in event or program design.
Experience with CRM systems, event management software, and analytics tools.
Strategic thinker with strong attention to detail and results orientation.
A passion for connecting people, celebrating business success, and delivering exceptional experiences.

Working Conditions

Hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote after onboarding).
Occasional early morning/evening events.
Off-site business visits and events (vehicle required).
Occasional lifting or carrying of event materials.
