Compensation: $84,000 – $93,000 annually, commensurate with experience

The Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) is seeking a high-capacity, relationship-focused professional to join our team as Manager, Events & Strategic Partnerships. This leadership role is responsible for delivering on two core pillars of BBOT’s strategic plan: Elevating Member Experiences and Fueling Economic Development.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven professional to lead one of the region’s most active business event portfolios—delivering over 70 events annually—and manage a strategic partnership program that directly supports BBOT’s mission and impact.

Position Overview
Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Manager, Events & Strategic Partnerships oversees the Events Department, the Economic Development Committee, and the Environmental Sustainability Committee. This role blends hands-on program execution with strategic oversight to deliver exceptional member experiences, deepen sponsor relationships, and advance BBOT’s mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Event Leadership
- Oversee the strategic development of BBOT’s comprehensive annual events calendar—guiding the priorities for 70+ events annually in alignment with organizational goals
- Ensure the delivery of key initiatives such as the Clean Energy Summit, the Burnaby Business Excellence Awards, and other Signature BBOT events.
- Manage event budgets with a focus on financial responsibility and positive ROI.
- Ensure event excellence through detailed planning, seamless execution, and timely post-event analysis.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to amplify visibility and storytelling around BBOT events.
- Strategic Partnerships
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with corporate sponsors, funding partners, and key stakeholders.
- Develop tailored sponsorship strategies and manage a $300,000+ partnership portfolio.
- Draft, negotiate, and oversee sponsorship agreements with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Serve as the primary liaison for sponsor activation, benefit fulfillment, and long-term engagement.
- Economic Development
- Advance BBOT’s economic development goals through sector initiatives, research, and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead delivery of clean energy and sustainability-focused programming, including the Clean Energy Summit.
- Foster respectful partnerships with Indigenous communities and champion inclusive approaches to economic reconciliation.
- Represent BBOT on civic initiatives and collaborate on Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with key partners.
- Member Engagement
- Work cross-functionally with the Membership and Communications teams to deliver inclusive and high-value member programming.
- Use CRM data and feedback to continuously enhance engagement, accessibility, and program relevance.
- Internal Leadership
- Provide cooperative direction and mentorship to the Events Department team members.
- Support organization-wide planning and strategic alignment.
- Model BBOT’s values by fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture rooted in trust, inclusion, and action.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in event management, partnerships, economic development, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in leading high-quality programs and building strong sponsor relationships.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, sponsorship agreements, and multiple deliverables simultaneously.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and program analytics.
- Passion for local business, economic development, and the Burnaby community.
